Professional Lead - Psychiatry

Dr Paul Fung is a psychiatrist with a special interest in youth mental health, family therapy and primary care mental health service delivery. He developed and implemented the headspace Youth Early Psychosis Program (Western Sydney) across 3 headspace centres with Orygen (University of Melbourne), and more recently the Karrikin Youth Mental Health Service (Northern Sydney) where he is the Clinical Lead. He has generated a number of innovative models of care for Parramatta Mission, one of Sydney's leading NGO mental health service providers.

Paul is passionate about training and education having held the position of Site Coordinator Of Training and regularly lecturing in the HETI Psychiatric Medicine Program. He is particularly interested in GP capacity building, running HETI's GP Mental Health Assessment and Management Workshops and building care pathways. He believes that technology is key to the efficient delivery of mental health training and service delivery. 

Paul has a strong interest in creating global mental health partnerships. He was awarded a Special Training Fellowship with the NSW Institute of Psychiatry in the area of International Mental Health where he delivered a leadership development program for mental health care leaders in 4 pacific island countries. He has done projects for WHO Geneva and the Transcultural Mental Health Centre. He has worked for an NGO in Thailand and been an invited speaker in China.  

Paul is an active member of the RANZCP, having held the position of Chair of the Section of Early Career Psychiatrists, served on the Members Advisory Council, and currently representing Australian and New Zealand in the World Psychiatric Association.
