The Older Person specialisation addresses the growing number and needs of the elderly community who have lived experience of mental illness. People with long term mental illness who grow older are joined by people who develop mental illness and distress for the first time in older age.
The Older Person specialisation enables students to critically evaluate the application of learning to working with older people, their families and carers. By applying age appropriate assessment, diagnosis and interventions within a recovery focused framework, students will be able to provide optimal outcomes for older people and their families.
