Levels of Study

HETI Higher Education has designed the Psychiatric Medicine and Applied Mental Health Studies frameworks as a sequence of three nested awards; Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters. This structure gives students the opportunity to exit with a recognised accredited award at a point appropriate to their needs.

Most students will initially enrol in the Graduate Certificate. Students may be able to enter at different levels depending on their prior experience or qualifications in the field of study.

After successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, students may choose to exit the program and be awarded the Graduate Certificate. Alternatively, they may complete a further year to complete the award of Graduate Diploma. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma, students may choose to exit or continue to a third year of study leading to the award of Masters.

The following is a general explanation of the three levels of award offered:

Graduate Certificate

Graduates at this level will have advanced knowledge and skills. A Graduate Certificate will extend skills and knowledge beyond the undergraduate degree and can be the stepping stone to the Graduate Diploma or Masters degree.

Our Graduate Certificate courses are generally 4 units in length and typically take one year (part-time) to complete.

This qualification is set at the Australian Quality Framework (AQF) level 8.

Graduate Diploma

Graduates at this level will have advanced knowledge and skills in a broader scope of the course subject. Graduates at this level will apply their knowledge and skills to demonstrate a high level of competency in the area of practice. This qualification can lead to the Masters level.

Our Graduate Diploma courses are generally 8 units in length and typically take two years (part-time) to complete.

This qualification is set at the Australian Quality Framework (AQF) level 8.

Masters

A Masters degree demonstrates an advanced understanding of the area of practice. It is a specialised qualification that can lead to career advancement and opportunities. Further study of a Doctorate (PhD) (though not currently available through HETI) is an option for those who attain their Masters qualification.

Our Masters degrees are generally 12 units in length and typically take three years (part-time) to complete.

This qualification is set at the Australian Quality Framework (AQF) level 9.
