Preparing for Graduations

Check eligibility

If a student meets the academic requirements of their course, they may be eligible to graduate. Students who are identified as eligible to graduate will be notified in early March. Eligible students will be required to notify HETI of their intention to graduate, defer, or progress in their studies.

If you have any queries regarding your graduation eligibility, please contact your Course Coordinator or Education Support Officer, contact details are located at the Key Contacts page.

Check personal details

Graduates will be asked to verify their name and contact details when confirming their intention to graduate. Ensuring that your details are correct will ensure that your graduation documents are posted to the correct address in the event you choose not to attend the graduation ceremony. Graduates who fail to update their address details prior to this deadline, may incur costs associated with replacement documents and postage, as well as potential delays in receiving their documents.

Ceremony dates and times

HETI Higher Education typically holds a Graduation Ceremony in April each year for students who have completed their studies in the previous academic year. The Graduation Ceremony is typically held on the main North Parramatta campus in the iconic courtyard.

Further details regarding the ceremony date, time and requirements is distributed to potential graduates early in the following academic year.

Graduation Day

Graduation is an important day to celebrate and formally acknowledge the hard work and achievements of HETI students. It is a time for students to reflect on their achievements and celebrate with family, friends, staff and all those who have supported them through their studies.

Academic Dress

Graduates are not required to wear academic dress to the graduation ceremony, however graduates and their invited guests are encouraged to dress in smart casual attire for the ceremony.

An academic dress is available for professional photographs on the day. All graduates are welcome to get their photograph professionally taken with the gown. There is no fee to be photographed with the academic dress.

Order of events

The ceremony is an opportunity for graduates to celebrate their achievements with family, friends and staff. At the ceremony, graduates are presented with their Testamurs and Academic Transcripts, and academic prizes are awarded.

Further details regarding the ceremony date, time and requirements is distributed to potential graduates early in the following academic year.

Photographs

A professional photographer will be available at the Graduation Ceremony. Typically photographs are taken of the Graduation Ceremony events including portrait photographs of our graduates in an academic dress These single photographs can be purchased for a small fee as a memorabilia of your graduation day. Further details regarding photographs will be distributed to graduates prior to their ceremony.

After graduation

Certificates

If graduates attend the graduation ceremony, you will receive your testamur, academic transcript and results statement at the ceremony.

If a graduate chooses not to attend their graduation ceremony, they will be graduated in absentia and their documents will be mailed to their personal address as nominated on their intention to graduate form.

If a graduate elects to defer attending their graduation ceremony, they will still be graduated in absentia and their academic transcript and results statement will be mailed to their specified address. This does not affect their ability to attend a later graduation ceremony.

Documents are sent by Registered Post using Australia Post.

Replacement documents

Your award certificate (also called testamur or degree certificate) is a valuable document. To protect against fraudulent use of certificates, copies cannot be issued, except when the original has been permanently lost or destroyed.

To replace a genuinely lost or destroyed certificate, you can download a Request for Replacement Academic Documents form and send this to HETI following the instructions on the form.

Upon receipt of a Request for Replacement Academic Documents Form, your request will be verified against your student record. After verification, the requested documents will be sent to the graduate by Registered Post.
