Flexible Study Options

stand alone

Flexibility in study options is a key need for people undertaking professional learning. At HETI we have invested in developing innovative learning systems and methodologies to ensure we cater for all needs

Non-Award and Professional Development

In addition to postgraduate courses, HETI provides the flexibility of studying units as

  • Non-Award (that is, as stand-alone units that are not part of a formal course) or
  • Professional Development (sometimes referred to as Continuing Professional Development or CPD)

These are great options for students who wish to take the first step without committing to a full course.  It’s also a good solution for those returning to study.

Successful completion of Non-Award study of the unit or units results in the attainment of Higher Education Credit and students will receive a transcript and certificate of attainment. Units completed can go towards an award should students decide to continue with their studies.

Professional Development on the other hand means that students participate in the learning but are not required to complete assessments or examinations. In this case, study does not result in Higher Education Credit but students are eligible for recognition of satisfactory participation.

RANZCP trainees can enrol in degree or professional development mode. If enrolled in professional mode for three years, this is called the Postgraduate Course in Psychiatry (PCP) program. The PCP program fulfils the requirements of a RANZCP Formal Education Course.

The fees for Professional Development (including PCP) are lower than those that go towards Higher Education Credit. See the link below for fee information.

Fee Information

Students studying units as Non-Award or Professional Development (including PCP) will be enrolled in a similar way as other full course students and will experience the same engagement and student experience.

All units are open to be selected as Non-Award or Professional Development. The only limitation is that only certain units are offered in semester one and others in semester two. View our courses to select your unit of study.
