Safety and security

Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) holds a strong commitment to an inclusive and safe culture by cultivating a learning environment in which mutual respect, dignity and inclusion prevail. The Student Support (Rights and Responsibilities) Policy has been developed specifically to take into account the needs of all students in creating and encouraging an inclusive and safe culture.

In addition, HETI upholds the NSW CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment and reflects these values in the Higher Education learning environment.

HETI has statutory obligations to ensure a safe and healthy environment that is free from unlawful discrimination, harassment, vilification, and bullying. HETI’s approach to these unlawful behaviours is informed by the NSW Health policies on Workplace culture and safety.

NSW Health policies for staff relating to safety and security include:

Through student feedback channels such as surveys and informal feedback, HETI Higher Education engages students to highlight any additional student needs in regard to the safety and inclusiveness of their student experience.

HETI also recognises the value of students being able to contribute their opinions and recommendations directly to its deliberative and decision making processes through a representative mechanism. There are student representatives on both the Higher Education Academic Board and the Teaching and Learning Academic Sub-Committee.
